Chapter Seven:

"Destroy Mega Man.....Destroy Mega Man. He is my rivilary!!! DESTROY MEGA MAN!!!!" Wily's voice kept echoing through the blackhalls of the Reploid's mind. The Reploid looked around, silently cursing the voice, wishing it would shut up already. It did. The Reploid looked around, wondering where he was. More importantly....who he was.

Walking down the halls, with a low mist on the ground, he began to search for the answer to this. He played with his long blonde hair absently as he looked at all the locked doors along the hallway.

As he kept walking, he reached the end of hallway. He saw a mirror hanging on the wall. He strolled over to the mirror and gazed into it, and saw a black devil looking at him, laughing, pointing. Insanity was written all over this thing. It's eyes showed it. And the Reploid was it.

Zero jerked forward and sighed. Another bad dream. Ever since he read the journal entry of Bass' death and how Wily planned to make him into a Reploid, he had been having nightmares. Strangely enough, he hadn't read further into the journal. It was as if some force was stopping him. And he didn't care to fight the force right now.

He found himself leaving the room and walking down to the Training Room. There he spent hours destroying targets, homing his skills. Some of the targets even become azure colors and looked like X. He espcially enjoyed blowing those up. He kept doing this until he heard footsteps. Jerking around, he saw another X. Grinning evilly, he fired a blast and heard the surprised cry escape the X's lips. Some alarm went off in his head. This wasn't right....

The X toppled to the floor. Zero shook his head and realised this was the REAL X! He ran over to his friend, who was already getting back up into a sitting position. "What the hell was THAT for?!" growled X.

"Sorry. You startled me. I was really into practice today...." Zero said. X looked at him, unsure, but then stood up.

"Well, next time, just don't mistake me for one of the Training Room's drones...." muttered X and left. Zero collasped on a bench, sighing and holding his head in his hands. He was so into shooting the X targets in his head, when the real X walked in, he just fired at him. He was losing it.....he didn't want to fight X, who was like a brother to him...but.... His words echoed in his mind the day he defeated Sigma. "Maybe Reploids were meant to go Maverick after all....after all....after all.....".

Standing up, Zero looked around. He knew he couldn't continue to resist the feelings of hatred toward X much longer. So he decided to give into it. He was going to destroy the Hunters and kill X. And for fun, he was going to blow the world up, wiping out all the Humans, just like a Maverick. "DESTROY MEGA MAN...DESTROY MEGA MAN...." echoed in his head, faintly, and a low chuckle came from the same voice.

Death Star knocked on the door to the steel doors leading to X1's lab. He had come to see if X1 wanted to do something this upcoming weekend. Ever since the Alaska thing, they became friends.

There was no answer, so he figured X1 was buried in his work. Opening the door, he stepped in and flicked on the lights, looking around the lab. It was full of junk and gizmos. And some things DS didn't feel like taking the time to guess what they were. But there was no X1 in here.

Sighing, Death Star began to walk around the room, picking stuff up and looking at it, waiting for X1 to return. As he was making his second pass on one section of the lab, he tripped over some boxes he hadn't seem before and went crashing into some gizmos on a table near by, knocking many to the floor. "Oh damnit....now I've done it..." he muttered and began to place the things back on the table when he came across across a small looking capsule. It suddenly flipped open, glowing with light. And he reconginzed the person in it immediately. "Dr. Light?!"

Dr. Light looked up at him, as if destrubed from thought. "The Hunter records say you are Death Star. I have urgent news about something and I need you to help me."

Death Star shook his head and looked around. What the hell was this thing? "I don't know HOW a you know who I am, but you're not he real Dr. Light pal. He died a long time ago...."

"I'm am an Artifial Intellgence, programmed with Dr. Light's knowledge and attitudes. I programmed many of these capsules with my AI. Also, this allows me to keep up with present situations, as I told X a few months ago with the Repliforce incident. But now, lad, I need you to warn X for me. I was shifting through my old history files and I think the MH has a walking time bomb. You won't find this in any history files, but when Bass was defeated, Dr. Wily made him into a Reploid. That reploid is now acting as a friend to X," Dr. Light went on. DS felt his eyes widen. "And that Reploid is no other than Zero. And he's going to go haywire any time now. He surely knows of Dr. Wily which would have set off any sleeper virus Wily installed."

Death Star set the capsule on the table and sat down, taking in the things the capsule just told him. "You're telling me that one of the world's legends, who sacrafised himself to save X, was created by Dr. Wily and is going to betray X?" He let out a chuckle of disbelief. "Sorry, Light, but I don't fall for it."

Dr. Light sighed. "This is no joke Death Star. I'm deadly serious. Have you noticed any changes in Zero lately?"

"Actually, no. But X has mentioned once to Dr. Cain, and I overheard this, that Zero was acting a little strange, ever since his encounter at the Final Weapon with Sigma."

"See? X noticed but he won't believe it. I hate to say it but he's too naive to notice it. You have to catch Zero red-handed and proof to X that he's going to take a dive into the deep end of the pool here...." Light said.

Death Star remained quiet for awhile. "I don't believe it, but I will watch Zero. I don't like to take chances," he muttered and stood up. "And why did it have to be ME? X1 deserves this much more..." He left the lab, heavy thoughts on his mind.

Zero flipped up into the air and slashed the attacking droid in half with his beamsaber. He landed on the ground and turned around and fired off a super blast and blew away three more, quickly turning with a flip to finish off the last few.

Death Star stood watching him across the room, hidden, his face full of worry as he used a nearby scanner on Zero. 'His power level is steadily increasing by the moment.....he's even stronger than X was when Cain last scanned him....' he thought to himself as he watched Zero activate more droids.

Zero suddenly became more aggresive and launched himself into his attacks, quickly and efficently destroying his attackers until the program ran out of droids. He then grabbed his beamsabre, turned and threw it inches from DS's face and grinned. "Hope you like the lesson, junior..." he snarled and walked by, grabbing the beamsabre and leaving DS there to wonder if there was any hope in all this.

X leaned back in the chair, looking at the multiple screens covering the areas of the city. It was a boring job that allowed the imagention run free. Sometimes X even allowed himself to fall into little kiddie games and imagen stuff. Who said that stuff was just for kids? In one corner, a technician was repairing a screen that had broken down a few minutes before. X didn't reconize him, but he got the oddest sense of Deja Vu.

Lazily he tapped the keys and a few of the monitors switched to new sites, some of the MH, others of the city. Ever since two weeks ago with the fall of the final Maverick rebellion, X had not practiced any and his power level had dropped some. The past week he had become a couch potato, watching TV. There was even Soaps he like to watch. But Zero, on the other hand, had been training even more and spent little or no time with X. In the past he would have playfully scold X for watching Soaps and goofing off, but now he had a haunted look on his face whenever he passed X and said nothing to him, only allowing a spare glance in his direction.

Punching a few more buttons, he heard the door open and close within five seconds and turned to Zero standing there, panting slightly from no doubt a recent training workout. He turned and looked at X with haunted eyes and forced a hallow smile. "Halo X, I'm here to take over now. My watch..." he said, trying to sound cheerful.

X nodded slightly and stood up, regarding his friend with a look of concern. "Anything you would li-" he began but Zero cut him off with a no and sat down in the chair and busily began to punch buttons. X looked around to say goodbye to the technician, but he was nowhere to be seen. Sighing, X opened the door and slowly strolled into the hall, closing it behind him. As he began to walk down to the REC Room to watch TV, he was grabbed by a hand and he turned to see DS.

"Shhhhh. I got bad news and you might not like it," the reploid began and looked both ways. "Hell, I didn't believe this myself until just now. I was in X1's lab the other day, and you know he had close ties to Light. Seems Light left him one of those capsules he left YOU. I accidently activated it and it told me about a reploid who would act like your friend and turn on you when he learned his true past. That reploid has and it's Zero." X shook his head in disbelief and looked at the Hunter.

"Are you insane?!"

"No! But as you know, Zero has been training awfully hard, and been acting strange, X. Put two and two together and get FOUR, not five," Death Star insisted.

X shook in his head in anger. "I don't believe I'm hearing this. You can be sure as hell that Cain will be hearing of this nonsense. We all owe Zero our lives!" X snarled and began to walk off when DS yelled out.

"X, don't be naive! X1 told me it was the first Mega Man's undoing, and it will be YOURS to if you keep this up. You're to naive to listen to the truth, and if you go and keep thinking it won't damnit happen, it WILL, and it'll be too late and history will have repeated itself AGAIN!" DS shouted, causing X to stop in his tracks, turn and look at DS with a look of such rage that DS involuntarily stepped back, and he walked off. The technician, standing at the entrance to the monitor room, nodded to DS as he followed after X.

DS slumped his shoulders. "Damn...." he muttered and looked around. "I got to talk to X1...only HE'LL believe me...."

"I don't believe you!"

DS slamed his fist on the table when X1 said that and roared. "QUIT BEING SO FREAKIN' DENIAL LIKE!!!!" he shouted and looked around and saw the capsule and grabbed it. "WATCH!!!" Nothing happened. "OPEN UP AI LIGHT!!" Nothing happened. "KA-ZAM?" Nothing happened. "Errrr," DS growled and tried to pry the capsule open and a message flashed. 'User is currently busy, please come back and try again.' "HAVE YOU BEEN MODIFYING THIS?!" yelled DS at X1.

"You've been into the lithium vats again, haven't you DS?"

"One time, and that's because you pushed me," DS returned. "But I'm not kidding!!! Haven't you been spying on Zero lately?"

X1 stared at DS awkwardly for a moment. "No! Not like that you pervert!" sighed DS, his voice taunt with anger.

"Well, reploid-watching isn't exactly my biggest hobby you know. Why? Is he playing with sock puppets again?"

"That was never proven, ya know. Besides, it was right after he was put together and had kinks to work out," muttered DS, still sore on the matter from the bet he had with X1 on it. "No, you know the normal power level of X is 35 and Zero is 34. But now Zero has leaped up to a level 38. And this hasn't even been recorded in the logs!!!"

"Are you pulling my leg? No, wait that isn't you...What the hell is that???" X1 shouted and began to kick it off while DS banged his head on the table.

"You're avoiding my accusions here...."

"No, I'm trying to avoid this thing crawling up my leg! Damn, I think it's in love with my shin..." X1 muttered but before his sentence was finished, the lab door slammed shut and DS was nowhere in sight. "Was it something I said?" X1 pondered, before he procceded to try and beat the creature off his leg with a bat.

Zero entered the control room of the Hunter HQ and grinned. Cain was off duty, at the furthest bar away from this place, drinking and telling stories, and X was busy watching Soaps, and all the other Hunters had just cleared out of the room at his command. He looked everything over and immediately began to work, shutting off power to the entire place and destroying vital machinary to the Hunters.

In 10 minutes, the HQ was dark, hidden in the night horizon, right before a giant explosion went off in the control room, lighting up like a spot light.

Chapter Eight:

Location: Unknown

Dr. Zealous watched the evening news, sitting back in his chair, eating popcorn. He was once a genius scientist who was working on Robotic technology at the time Dr. Light & Wily where. They beat him, but he still created master piece Robots, one of which was stolen by Wily, under the guise of Mr. X, at the robotics fair. But he had built better robots since then, but never used them for fear of Mega Man....

"Horrible news has struck the citizens of Capcom City today....at the Labortory of Dr. Light, the creator of the legendary Mega Man, was attacked today. Reports have been hard to come by, except by helicopters flying all over there, but it seems that there was a great battle between Mega Man and Bass. The labortory, as shown in the picture," the newscaster said, pointing to the right where a screen had appeared on the overhead look of the lab was, "has taken sever damage. There has been many claims that a lot of Light's technology has been scattered about, causing some looters to appear. But it seems a white armored robot that looks like Mega Man was seen throwing tomatoes at them, and the reporters, and even some rocks. At the reporters. The looters have left and seem to be leaving Light alone. But, folks, here is the sad news. Mega Man was totally destroyed and mangled to bits. Our hero is dead.....we will bring you more on this story as it continues," the newscaster finished.

Dr. Zealous began to laugh evilly and stood up. "PERFECT!!! Light's technology, sitting there for the grabs, and only a little white robot guarding it!!! This is all to great...." he snickered to himself and immediately prepared his robots for an invasion.

Location: The Ruins of the Light Labs

While Roll was quietly sweeping up some rubble to put into a large pile she was getting, Dr. Light, Dr. Cossack, Auto, and X1 all stood around a table, inside the part of the lab standing up. On the table was Mega Man, who was hooked up to alot of gadgets keeping his memory going, as not to lose the infomation. He was covered in wires and looked as if he were only a ghost of the once grand robot.

"Tis a bloomin' shame..." moaned Auto, the big robot said, with his head down. "Now what will I do in the thumb wars department? Oh, woe is me..." he kept moaning to himself. Though it didn't seem like it, he truly missed Mega Man.

Dr. Cossack turned to Light. He was a Russian who attacked Light once because Wily had kidnapped his daughter. He had made eight grand robots, that Mega Man had turned to dust, and later created Beat for Mega Man. Right now the bird was on a tree limb, singing sadly. "There be nothin' I can do, Light, dontcha' know...." he said. "The body be unrepairable. Be better to take memory disk and save it, making a new body for it..." he said, his English a little off and his accent sounding thick.

"I thought of that, Cossack, but Mega Man took a serious blast to the head it seems and his memory chip seems to have been partically damaged. Some or all of his memory could be lost. If it CAN be saved, we need to leave in it the present body..." Light said.

Auto turned his head from his crying, if he could have. "I can do sumpthin doc, anythin' for my pal Mega Man....He's like a little blue brother to me that's always going off and kicking Wily's butt...." he started, losing track of what he was saying.

"I'm afraid not, Auto....you're mechanic skills are very limited. However, any supplies you can over me from your shop will be much needed," Light told him. The robot nodded and jogged off immediately to lend some supplies. Light then turned back to Cossack. "Anything you can suggest other than trying to remove his memory?"

"Be nothin' I can tell you, Light, but be better to make new body for the chap than to repair ol' body," Cossack said.

"You're right..." Light sighed and the two immediately began to run through the computer files when something clicked in Light. "Oh no!" he said and Cossack turned to him questioningly. "I forgot about it, but awhile back Bass stole some plans for the Rush adaptor I made, but he also stole a copy of the Reploid plans I told you about. Bass was beyond repair....and Wily's so twisted that he would create Bass as a Reploid to wreck havoic in the future...." Light muttered.

Cossack nodded thoughtfully. "We could try to do the the same, ya know bloke'," he said.

Light shook his head thoughtfully. "Risky. The entire Reploid plan was never truly thought out ahead of time. A Reploid has emotions and can make their own decisions in life. I was creating plans for 'X'. That's where X1 got his name. I wanted 'X' to have a peaceful life, and I based his body upon that of Mega Man's, only with supposed higher technology when I got around to it," Light began and brought up the stats on X. "We have to take Mega Man's memory chip out and install it into this type of robot body. Mega Man/X's memory would most certainly be wiped....however, I consider it necessary...." Light finally finished.

Light went to the remains of his lab and began to get the technology for a Reploid, which would take months, even years, to make, espcially with the shape the lab was in. Thankfully Cossack was here to help....

Hacker Man scurried about, turning the power on in the hidden lab and bringing up as much infomation as possible into the computers, which were all currently hooked up to Bass. Whenever he looked about the ruined body of the once glorious Bass, he woundered if it was a smart thing to be doing this....to re-make Bass.

"STEP ON IT!" shouted Wily, who was busily on another computer running scans and checks on what was a prototype of Bass. That dismissed any thoughts Hacker Man had and continued to work, at an increased rate. "Nuts! We don't have half the stuff we need to remake Bass. We have zero chances of making him here...." he muttered as he did a final scan. "This is my last chance at ending Light's dream of a world where robots and men can live together..." he growled and worked faster. "Plus he'll recreate Mega Man...I swear Bass will destroy Mega Man, in ANY future form..."

Hacker Man listened, but paid no heed to the ranting old man. His faith in the doc ended the second he was made. Wily's attempts at world domination was futile and useless....yet, here he was aiding Wily in prolonged attacks.

As Wily was running searchs, he began to laugh evilly. "This is IT! Cossack has left his labortory to go help Light. He's left all his supplies there, for now, but he will head back there to get it. He has everything we need to remake Bass," Wily said to Hacker Man, turning away from the screen. "Are you FINISHED with those damn electronics yet?" he yelled.

"Y-Yes sir!" studdered Hacker Man.

"Perfect. You're going to play thief. Follow the locations to Cossack's lab and raid it with all the materials on this list," Wily told him as a list was being printed out.

"Y-Yes sir!" he studdered again and grabbed the list.

"NOW MOVE IT!"

The robot stood on top of the tallest building in the city he could find, over looking the evening sky, pondering what would happen now. He reached up to his neck but found that his prized item was no longer there, lost yesterday.

His head turned ever so slightly to the right when he heard a noice. There was a group of eight robots teleporting down in the middle of the city. Crouching down, he felt a sharp pain in his body. He still needed to fix himself up.

Watching the robots head down toward the direction of where he came from, the robot knew dimmly that they were raiders, like vultures picking off the pieces of dead meat. They were heading to Light's lab. But where they Wily's? Hadn't he caused enough damage?

The robot stood. He had been hiding long enough. Time to head back home and face the problems that were sure to follow. Like Murphy's law.

The labortory was quiet. All the machines ran on auto pilot and nothing moved. Suddenly there was a bright teleportation light and the room became dark again. The stealthy robot began to move quickly across the room, to grab the stuff he was sent to get. With his stealth moves and his powerful spying abilites, he----tripped over a trashcan and smashed onto the floor, rolling around and hitting a table, knocking over test tubes which made a terrible crashing noice.

Hacker Man stood up and quickly switched on the light, rubbing his shin and muttering angerily as he looked over the damage he had caused. Suddenly the door opened up and he turned around to see a little nine year old girl staring at him. Cossack's daughter Kalinka stood there, her mouth opened with surprise. "Oh dear..." he moaned and looked around for something to stop the girl before she did anything no one wanted very much....Grabbing the trashcan, he threw it at her legs, tripping her. Squeling with surprise, she hit the ground with a thud as Hacker Man jogged over there and picked her up, stuffing her in the trash can and throwing her in the closet. The girl pounded on the door as he broke the handle, locking her in. "I'm urgh!" he started and was pushed back by the force of her blows. "But I can't let you out!"

He returned to finding the materials he wanted, trying to ignore the pounding on the door. "Lemme see..." he began and started to grab stuff, piling them on the floor. As soon as he grabbed everything on the list, he heard a terrible cracking noice and turned to see that Kalinka was actually about to break the closet door down. "Good grief..." he muttered and stood in the middle of the pile of gadgets and teleported, taking them with him as she broke the door down. Kalinka looked everywhere and immediately took off to call her dad.

Dr. Cossack returned to Light, who was standing over some materials and paperwork on the X module. "Kalinka says that robot broke into the lab and stole the exact materials, give or take a few, we're going to use for the Reploid," he spoke. Light sighed and looked up.

"We figured as much. Oh well..." he moaned when he heard noices from the remains of the alarm systems. "We got approaching robots coming from the north! X1! Go check it out!" he yelled out.

X1 teleported to the northren area of the lab and scanned the area, heavy thoughts hung on his mind. Things were just snowballing from here it seemed. Suddenly a blast came flying out at him and he had to dodge it with quick defensive reflexes. "Hey!"

Suddenly eight robot masters appeared before him, smirking evilly. The one on the far left did his little special move. "I'm Lightning Man!" he shouted, and a short lightning bolt flickered off of him.

The next one stepped up. "I'm Explosive Man!" he snarled and let off a short explosion that rattled everyone.

"I'm Smart Man, and I'm going to out think you!" the next one said and smirked evilly.

"I'm Ninja Man, and I'm gonna slice and dice you!" another said and twirled his swords menacingly.

"I'm Blow man and I'm goin' blow yer sorry carcass out of here!" he said and let off some wind that pushed X1 slightly back.

"I'm called Sharp Man and prepare to feel the cold blades of death!" he told him and his sharp needles and other weapons sparkled.

"I'm Legend Man and I'm going to make you a legend no one will ever know!" the confident weird looking robot informed him.

"And I'm called Locomotive Man, and I'm gonna run ya down!!!!" the last one said and blew a puff of smoke.

"I hate introductions...." X1 said and began to step backward, hitting his combutton. "Uh, chief, we got a BIG problem here...."

Suddenly the air filled with a red light as a red robot teleported down, looking extremely pissed. "THIS IS MY HOME, BACK OFF!!!" shouted Proto Man as he charged his blaster. The other robots smirked and began to enclose them in a circle.
