Orihime is one of the many Nue daughters of Miyuki and Hi’Saa; and she is very much a child of both, having traits that have melded more than her other siblings. When she was born she looked just like the rest of her bun litter, except that her ears were shorter; leading her mother’s to suspect that she was a dwarf. Hi’Saa took a special interest and affection with the little bun, and it seemed to work; as Orihime grew she showed no signs of being stunted, however her ears didn’t lengthen at the same rate, instead they grew out a bit and resembled a cross between her parents. Her ears being longer and narrower than Miyuki’s, but shorter than Hi’Saa’s; her fox tail(s) grew out when she was 4, and are shorter than other Kitsune’s. Both her tails and ears are covered in a luxurious layer of gray and white fur.
As she was growing, she was frequently viewed as being fragile due to her stunted ears, or being delicate even after they grew into their mature state. She has viewed her older sister Shion as a rival for the coveted place of being the favorite daughter but this rivalry doesn’t keep her from loving her sister as fiercely as she does the rest of the family. Most of the time she is very docile and friendly, sometimes appearing meek; but she is a fun-loving member of the family who likes play tricks on her siblings (rarely others) and watch the ensuing chaos. But Orihime has come to the point in her life where she feels that she needs to shed the ‘fragile’ and ‘delicate’ status in her family.
Similar to several of her kin, Orihime has a knack for the spiritual and magical; using them along with her innate love and ability to control fire to augment each of them. As her namesake implies, she is able to combine and weave them unusual and sometimes intense or explosive results. Since striking out on her own and joining the teams she's had a roller-coaster ride of good and bad; setting off alarms and needing others to rescue her, unhappy teammates like Chad Winters. When her mother Miyuki was killed by the Spirit of Death she went to Amaterasu for guidance and became a Shrine Maiden, hoping that the power from the Goddess would help her protect her family; since Death's defeat and the ensuing temporal paradox leaving most to forget what happened, she has forgotten about the pact with Ama. The pact has remained in place and supplied her with energy when other Kitsune were running low.
She decided to join up with Lorelei when she took the kids to Yggdrasil however, and has been working to better her control of fire as well as what she can do with it. The 9 years spent there seem to paid off, her energy seeming to be higher than ever before as evident by a luxurious 3rd tail, and an easier time in keeping fire from popping up at the most inopportune times. |
