Character Creation:

The Duality Wars

Step 8: Combat - How Does It Work?

Combat is pretty simple. For the most part it is pretty free form when it comes to your normal attacks and strikes. If you carry a weapon in an item slot from your Endurance Stat, you are allowed to do slashes and strikes like normal. There is nothing stopped you.

Players and enemies might Slash and attack each other with no comment for quite a while, doing damage. During this part and phase there might not be much damage to armor or Health. It is more or less chalked up to what is considered "minor wounds" and "exhaustion".

Example 1 During A Normal Attack:

However, even during this "phase" a player or enemy could use a Reflex Stat or Speed Stat to dodge an attack, then follow it up with an attack move. For example:

Player A slashes out at the Boss's throat. The Boss uses 1 Reflex Stat to avoid it (since the Slash is not set up with any Stat and is not an Attack Move, this is fine).

The Boss then follows it up immediately with an Attack Move at Player A and to cut down on a Turn Phase the Boss has, spends an Action Point, to catch Player A while they are still slashing. Forcing Player A to need to use a Counter+Action Point to block it.

Now The Boss could use a Counter to press the advantage.

Back to Talking:

As you can see, even though the players were attacking normally, the Boss turned the table with his Stats. Of course this burns the Stats up so he cannot reuse that 1 Reflex Point. You could say it went from 7 Reflexes to 6 and however many Counters the two use up.

That is prime example of just how Combat works.

Another big thing is that there is a Turn system to a lot of moves, especially for powerful Mage moves you will see the more they gain access to Higher Level destruction and you can take that knowledge into Attack Moves.

When you create certain attack moves and special moves, you will see to the side a list of requires in additon to damage.

Attack Move Examples:

D.C. Boxing (Attack) - Asarar is the master of unpredictable movements, especially drunk. Her fighting style allows her to shift about her body and fight hand to hand, or with bladed weapons, so that she can pummel and strike her opponent. Her attack combo is a skilled one that is hard to break except with COUNTERS or moves that can break such. (Breaks guards, +1 HP every hit it gets in, continues until stopped or 5 hits)

Now, you might see something like also [1 turn-] tacked on after the Breaks guards, +1 HP, continues until stopped or 5 hits.

This means your opponent can take one turn before your can unleash your attack. If you are targetting them. Or if you are targetting people in general, the army in general making one move in general. This does not mean they have to attack, it can be a line of dialogue. Remember this in a bit.

So essentially, if your move is very powerful, or requires charging time, you will see instead of minutes like in the past since that was completely not able to be tracked, turns now.

This also goes both ways, however. If you have a buff or something that helps you, you might see something that looks like this:

Karma Fang (Attack) - Vyvy can lash out and deal increasing damage the lower on health she is. (1 HP damage increase per 2 she's lost - [5 Turns+])

The way you can tell it apart, if you see a + it is in your favor, if you see a - it means you have to wait. [5 Turns-] [5 turns+]

Health and Armor:

Your Health is important in that your life literally depends on it. When you take damage, your health depletes and when it hits 0 Health, you are dead. Unless someone has ressurection, you have so many turns to be revived.

Armor has Durability, as does various mods, and they are added up on your character's stat page. The Durability is depleted before your Health is chipped away at.

Items:

You begin with Beginner Level Weapons and Armor. You need slots to carry items such as these, so Endurance Stats are important. To pick items you need to be sure to have empty slots. You can carry things such as Health Restore Packs and Stamina Restore Packs that restore a certain amount of each, as well. You can see a list of Tech/Items in the tabs above.

Beginner Level Weapons, which you will create your own unique Weapon, have the beginning stats of +2 Action Points, which allow you to either spend those points with your normal allotment of points, or use them in other ways.

Beginner Level Armor comes with +2 Durability.
