Chapter 5: Escape

Ever wonder if things couldn't go from worse to worst? Ever had the feeling that things could only go your way after all the hell you've walked through? Well, don't....I can personally tell you that now. Death Star strained against the chains, only causing himself to swing back and forth. The name's Death Star. And I've just got my butt in a you-know-what load of a mess. My old friend North Star seems to want to take a chunk out of me. And everyone I care for. And he's already succeeded with X1...and now he's going to pay. If I can just get a break... Death Star struggled with all his might and the chains ripped from the ceiling, causing him to crash to the floor, the sound echoing down the halls like someone playing the drum. Standing up, he went over to the control pad and dematerialized the chains off of him. Like I said, I can't get a break....and neither can X1, now...
The ship steered away from the wreckage. "Sir, the target has been totally destroyed...there are no life signs of the subject," the Maverick sent to North Star as they patrolled the area of the wreckage.

"You fool, he's out there. I've studied X1 for a very long time. The weapon I designed will stop him dead in his tracks, but only IF you can get it pointed at the slippery weasel. Search harder, he is NOT dead...." North Star ordered.

"Yes, sir." The Maverick continued scanning the debre when he suddenly heard something, ever so faint, behind him and turned around to see the subject standing there, not even bruised.

"Ah, my knights in shining armor...er, battle gear," X1 said and began to morph to take the two out when the other one raised a strange device and fired. Beginning to shapeshift out of the way, he was caught off guard as the beam somehow hit him in the central drive unit and shut him off completely.

"Sir, subject down. Coming home."

Death Star stepped into the hallway. All his weapons, that weren't taken off of him, were somehow deactivated within the walls of the base, so he didn't have any weaponry...yet. Running down the hallway, he came across a Maverick and grabbed him from behind, crushing his neck in and twisting his head off in one fluent motion. "You would lose your head if it wasn't attached," he told the dead form in front of him as he grabbed it's saber and stopped in front of Iceheart's cell. It was down the hall, just like North Star had said. And that caused Death Star to instantly expect a trap. But he had no choice.

Using the saber, he cut open the door and flung it from it's position, listening it to smash into the wall behind him with a sickening crack. Iceheart looked up, startled. "D-Death Star!?"

"The one and only. Now let's bust this joint. Unless you want to stick around for whatever North Star's got cooking..." he told her, taking her arm and running back down the hallway, past the dead body, to the elevator pod and entered it, looking at the settings on it. "Damn, damn..." he muttered.

"What?" Iceheart asked.

"I don't know if this base is half-buried in the ground, so that would be going down would be suicidal, or high up in the air, which meant going up would be death..." he told her.

"Pick one then."

"Oh, sure. Just like that...." he said, pushing down. The elevator pad rode slowly, ever so slowly, down to the last floor and dinged loudly. "Thanks, traitor.." muttered Death Star to it as he took Iceheart's hand and stepped out of the elevator and saw they were in the generator room of the base. "Looks like we picked wrong..." he told her.

"That is correct...." came the voice behind them. Death Star turned around and saw North Star there, his arms glowing with pulsing energy, and his face twisted in fury at the fact that Death Star and Iceheart had escaped this far. This is the last thing I wanted....a one to one with North Star. Don't get me wrong, normally I would love this, but Iceheart's here. I don't want to endanger her... North Star walked towards them.

Roaring in anger, remembering X1 one final time, he leaped at North Star with the Reploid's saber drawn and slashed at North Star, who merely stood there. Suddenly he pulled X1's limped form in front of him, causing Death Star to have to pull back and slid on the floor, hurting himself in the process. "He's ALIVE!?"

"Yes...seems he didn't die in the explosion...but rest assured...he will die soon AND by my very hand..." North Star promised him. Suddenly X1 shifted and threw North Star into the wall, grabbing a bag off his back and throwing it to Death Star.

"Don't count on it, clone-reject. Like one Death Star is bad enough..." X1 said. Death Star smirked and opened the bag, seeing his weapons in it. Arming himself, he equipped his saber as North Star drew himself up to his full height.

"X1...Iceheart, we need to move. To fight on this tiny plank over the generator is suicidal for us. Lets move on," Death Star ordered and began to run away from North Star. X1 and Iceheart both followed as North Star ran after them. X1 morphed his hand into an anvil and rammed him back a few feet as he reached the others, who stood at a wall. "Oh, perfect." I knew it....from worse to worst...and here comes Satan to collect our souls... Death Star turned and saw North Star was about to recover.

Suddenly the wall crumbled to bits and a group of Reploids grabbed them and pulled the three in, throwing a bomb into the base while they were at it. The bomb landed on the generator and exploded on contact, blowing a hole in the huge machine. It caused a chain reaction that blew the generator sky high, ripping the plank in half, sending North Star skidding back into the elevator pod. That was the last Death Star was able to see as he was dragged into a dark tunnel as the generator, and base, collapsed. Hey, even I'm wrong....occasionally.

Death Star held his tender shoulder and turned to the leader of the pack of Reploids that was leading them down the deep, dark tunnels. "Who are you?" he asked gently. No sense in pissing him off, right?

"I am a friend. We are a group of Reploids, like your REBEL was, Commander Death Star. We heard you were being held here and came to help. And to take out North Star, who has been attacking our unit for ages now. We had...the same purpose in mind, believe me." Death Star noted that he didn't tell him his name.

"Well, thank you for your help....so, we're free when we get out of here?" he asked.

"Of course. We'll stop at our camp and then lead you on your way," the Reploid leader told him and smiled, but turned and frowned at Iceheart. "Why are you with her?" Death Star blinked, thrown by the question.

"W-What do you mean?"

"You know NOT of her past? That is a shame..." another voice said, a female voice, from behind him. Turning around, an attractive female Reploid stood there. She brushed back her blonde hair and smiled. "Remind me to tell you, when we arrive at camp, Death Star...." She smiled sexily and continued on.

I don't like this....not one bit....
